Camp Sunburst Volunteers
Do you have a special talent or skill that you would like to share at Camp Sunburst?

Make your summer unforgettable and spend a week at Camp Sunburst with children, youth, or teens living with HIV/AIDS.

Camp Sunburst is looking for responsible, dependable individuals to serve as volunteer camp counselors for campers living with HIV/AIDS.

Volunteering as a counselor is a wonderful opportunity to enhance the lives of children who are dealing with this terrible illness. Counselors serve as role models, friends, and are responsible for the general safety and well being of campers.

Our nationally acclaimed residential summer camp program provides a sanctuary for HIV/AIDS infected and affected children and their parents/guardians. This large program needs many volunteers in a variety of positions. We have three different volunteer positions available:
  • Camp Counselors
A 1:1 or 1:2 counselor to camper relationship is provided for the full week of camp. Counselors help with fun activities such as drama and swimming as well as providing emotional support and adult advocacy to the children.

  • Camp Medical Staff
Nurses, Doctors, MFCCs, MSWs, LCSWs, LMFTs and certified massage therapists who are on call to serve the medical and therapeutic needs of those attending camp.

  • Camp Support Staff
Provide counselor relief, set up/clean up activities and generally assist the Camp Program Directors with activities.
Each camp session is approximately one week long and is held at Camp Arroyo, Livermore, California. To view dates, go to: Camp Schedule.

We also hold Camp Sunburst Teen Camp, which is designed especially to help HIV/AIDS infected and affected teenagers safely make the transition into emotionally healthy adults. The Teen Camp has the same volunteer positions available as the children and youth camps, but it is required that volunteers have two years’ experience working with teenagers.
